URUSHI-COATED JAPANESE PAPER
Urushi is a living natural lacquer and its representative colours are black and vermilion. However, we are able to make various colours using special techniques and pigments. When urushi is painted onto Japanese paper, the paper becomes stronger as though it is adjusting itself to the surroundings. Urushi gives paper the quality of being water-resistant, so it can be used in washrooms or kitchens. If we compare this special paper to cloth, it may be the equivalent of a gorgeous, dignified silk fabric.
Please note the following points regarding urushi-coated paper:
*Do not use it outside.
*To clean it, wipe it with a dry or a wet cloth.
*If you apply some oil to the paper, its beauty and gloss will last longer.

COLOURED JAPANESE PAPER
Traditional Japanese painting uses pigment dissolved in nikawa water. Nikawa is a gelatin made from the bone or skin of animals, and functions like glue. This paper is coloured by pigmentation and nikawa so it has a variety of natural colours. Therefore, the colour of the actual paper comes out very well. Sometimes it has modern feeling, and sometimes it has traditional atmosphere. If we compare this paper to cloth, it may be likened to dyed casual cotton.
Please note the following points regarding coloured Japanese paper.
*Do not use it outside or in a place where it will be exposed to water.
*Wipe it with a dry cloth.
